Wahclella Falls Oregon Elopement
When it comes to locations near Portland it’s really hard to beat a Wahclella Falls Oregon Elopement.  Kat and Erik reached out a few months back wanting to elope at a waterfall in the Columbia River Gorge. I sent them a few ideas but we eventually settled on an early weekday elopement at Wahclella. It’s the perfect balance of natural beauty and hiking.
I wanted to make sure we were done early before the crowds showed up so we started our hike in around 7:45am. There was only one other car in the parking lot and we didn’t even run into anyone on the trail. The hike out is about a mile and really easy by Oregon standards.
We got to Wahclella Falls around 8:15am and there wasn’t a soul around(just as planned). It was a beautiful overcast morning so the light was soft and warm. Absolutely perfect.
Mist and Mountains
Erik and Kat had a simple and quick ceremony to make things official. Immediately after we signed the wedding documents and took some group photos with her Sister and her sister’s husband including the officiant. We were so lucky not to have any people show up to the falls until we were practically finished with portraits. As I was wrapping the last of the wide waterfall photos up a group walked in and went out on the rocks. Couldn’t have timed it better.
I absolutely love these easy to access locations but crowds and timing are definitely a factor when planning. I always encourage couples to go early weekdays or find a location that takes more work than your typical tourist is willing to put in. Usually after the 2 mile mark locations with hikes tend to thin out.
If you’re wanting to elope or have an engagement up in the Columbia River Gorge check out my location guide and get in touch. The Columbia River Gorge is LOADED with great places that have everything from high desert vibes to waterfalls and mountain views.
