Venice Italy Engagement
It’s not often I get to shoot a Venice Italy engagement session. Or ever really. But shooting engagements and elopements on the road is one of my favorite parts of this gig. While traveling through Italy this last summer Leanne contacted me about photographing them while I was in Venice. They both live about an hour away so it was the perfect spot while I was in town. To be fair though we didn’t actually photograph this right in Venice. We went to Burano which is about a 15 minute boat ride away. It’s another island right next to Venice that shares the canals but has something that Venice doesn’t have, insanely bright color walls on all the buildings. It’s such a beautiful place to walk around. Unlike Venice you don’t have the insane crowds to deal with. Instead it’s mostly locals who are going about with their daily lives.
Canals and Colors
We went there with no plans because neither of us had been to the area but once I saw photos of it I knew Burano was the spot. We had to take an early ferry so the light was really bright when we arrived. I just embraced it. Typically photographers like really soft like but lately I’ve been embracing harsh light and using the shadows to my advantage. In the end you have to be able to photograph in any environment no matter if it’s ideal or not. I really enjoyed shooting in the harsh midday sunlight. We weren’t rushed for time so it was easy to walk around and find places that worked well with the lighting. My favorite part of this session has to be the old guy towards the end of the shoot. He was just sitting out on his front porch watching people walk by. He noticed me taking his photo and gave my a big two handed waved. I tried to work him into a few of their photos for fun and I’m really happy with how these turned out. Just a fabulous place and a fabulous couple.
If you’re wanting to elope or have engagement please get in touch. I know all of the great spots and I’m happy to share the beauty of Oregon with you.
