Cape Kiwanda Engagement
This was my first time photographing a Cape Kiwanda Pacific City Oregon engagement since moving to Portland from the east coast. Man, what a stunning place. Emily and Seth originally wanted to do a hike out near Sisters closer to their home in Bend(they’re really into hiking). But the trail still had a considerable amount of snow on in so we opted for Cape Kiwanda as a backup. Not Disappointed. This place has everything you could want: Giant ocean rock, sand dunes, more beautiful rocks, great beach and nice little surf action. The light out here on the west coast is just so much different than back east. It’s better in every way imaginable which makes shooting sessions like these a blast. Like most of my couples, Emily and Seth aren’t really into the overly posed photos. I usually get hired because I’m really good with natural feeling candids and outdoor vibes. So I’m really glad they enjoyed themselves and didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. My favorite part of this session is the flowers Emily brought. She found some along the roadside and decided they’d look good in the photos, she was right. Those little touches are the things I remember about shoots like these.
If you’re wanting to get engaged, propose or just have an elopement on the coast. Definitely get in touch!
Crashing Waves and Sandy Feet
The other rad thing about this spot is you can get away from the crowds really easily. There were two weddings and another engagement shoot going on and it didn’t interfere at all which was a huge relief. Weekends at popular spots like this can be tough which is why I often shoot these sessions during the week when the crowds aren’t present. As a bonus I got to drive through wine country on the way and check out a venue I’m shooting in the near future, Maysara Vineyards so that was pretty solid.
My whole approach to weddings and engagement shoots is to keep it relaxed, fun, natural and adventurous as possible. I feel like this one hit the mark on all of those and Emily and Seth were just a breeze to work with. Stoked on this one.
If you’re wanting to elope or have an engagement on the coast please get in touch. I know all of the great spots and I’m happy to share the beauty of Oregon with you.
