Downtown Portland Wedding - Hoyt Arboretum
Hotel: Kimpton Vintage
Venue: Hoyt Arboretum
Reception Venue: ENSO Winery
Ice Cream: Salt and Straw
Food: Ash Wood Fired Pizza
I loved this downtown Portland summer wedding, minus the heat. Sarah and Orion were so so awesome to work with. They were the epitome of laid back and made the whole wedding day just a lot of fun without stressing. They even brought their dog “Yukki” to be a part of the festivities, which if you know me, that’s a sure winner. The day started at the Kimpton Vintage downtown. Sarah and Orion both got ready before hopping on the bus to Hoyt Arboretum which is just above downtown. It’s one of my favorite locations in the city and I shoot there quite a bit. The redwood deck is beautiful whether it’s rainy or bright and sunny. We all hopped the bus to Hoyt from the hotel. It was a double decker which made it a little more fun than the usual bus or limo rides I’m used to.
The Urban and the Outdoors
The ceremony was short and sweet. They did a tree ceremony where they both added water to a bonsai tree as a symbol of the love and effort it takes from both to keep a healthy, loving marriage. After the ceremony we waited for the bus to take us to ENSO winery over on the east side just across the river from downtown. Like the rest of the wedding day, the reception was incredibly laid back. No formalities other than the dances and toasts. The pizza truck outside made fresh pies for the guests with a brick oven and the guests were able to just hang out and enjoy each other’s company like a backyard dinner.
The real treat for me was having Salt and Straw ice cream as a dessert. OH MAN. I love that stuff. Sarah’s brother work’s for them and if you haven’t had a chance to try them yet, do that as soon as you can. The ice cream was just another personal touch on an incredibly meaningful yet casual wedding day for these two. I love when my couples focus on the important things and don’t let the stress get to them. These two were gems.
