Sonoma County Portrait Photographer
Am I a full time Sonoma County portrait photographer? No, but I was for this day! I photographed this “session” while I was on my west coast road trip with my good friend and videographer Matt of The Good Life Film Co. We traveled from Portland all the way down highway one to San Francisco with a few stops like Yosemite National Park in between. It was one of the most fun trips I’ve ever had. 10 days in a van doing nothing but photographing. We stopped in Sonoma so Matt videotape this session of the now Sonoma Mayor for his film reel. I shot a few background photos and a couple portrait esque photos. Ideally I wouldn’t have photographed this early in the day. The sun was far too bright for my liking, but that’s what the schedule we were on for allowed us. I really prefer to shoot in soft light just before and right after sunset or sunrise. It’s the softest, most beautiful type of natural light. With the mustard plant flowers(all those yellow blooms) it would have been amazing. So instead I played around with exposure a bit as well as your more traditional portrait style photos. Sonoma was really beautiful and it doesn’t take long to figure out they have some really great wines as well. I can’t remember the name of the winery we photographed this one but I vaguely remember it being a famous musician that owned it. I could be wrong on that but I think it’s correct. The one thing I really love about California is when the wildflowers come out. So much of the year it’s very brown so when the colors in the hills and mountains really start to pop it’s an amazing site. I’d highly recommend Sonoma if you’re anywhere near the San Francisco area as a nice day or weekend trip.
