Portland Oregon Model Test Photoshoot
This Portland Oregon model test photoshoot was one for the books. The model, Carly, contacted me while I was out in Portland scouting neighborhoods to live in when I move out there later this year. She is represented by model and talent agency Sports + Lifestyle Unlimited. She wanted a shoot that was a hybrid between fashion and outdoor/lifestyle. I tossed the idea of hiking out to Wahclella Falls to shoot as I had been there a few days earlier and was impressed by how beautiful it was. After seeing photos of it she agreed. I picked her up that morning to drive out to the gorge. It was a fairly brisk morning and we wanted to get there before the sun started peaking through the canyon. I wanted the light to be as even and soft as possible and once the sun comes over the ridge I would be fighting really hard shadows and highlights since I was working with only natural light. If I had my lighting gear I could have offset that but the hike in is about a mile and without an assistance to help carry and hold my gear during the shoot it would have been really tough. We hiked out to the falls and were surprised to see no one was out there yet. It was still early morning and most of the tourist traffic starts later morning on the trails. It didn’t take long to get into the swing of things and working with such natural beauty(both Carly and the waterfalls) made my job much less difficult. After the shoot we packed our things and headed back down the trail to the parking lot. We passed A LOT of people heading to the falls and the sun was just starting to peak into the canyon. I was so happy we timed it as well as we did and I’m really happy with the results for being an all natural light shoot.
