Portland Oregon Hipster Styled Portrait
Hey guys! Back with a pretty fun and simple concept shoot with Christina. I love being able to photograph this Portland Oregon hipster styled portrait session. This editorial shoot was inspired by Madewell fashion. Madewell is a womens clothing brand that makes some really stellar clothing. Even as a guy I really dig their style. I was recently just in the Portland Madewell store talking to the workers about photography and life in Portland. Anyway, we wanted to come across as hip and fashionable but comfortable and functional. I contacted Christina who I had known a long time in the modeling world here when she showed interest in collaborating on this idea. Originally it was going to be done with my assistant and lit with strobes. My assistant fell through on that day because he was sick so I decided to go ahead and shoot it without him anyway in natural light. We had super bright light on the day of the shoot and since the plan was to use no off camera lighting we just rolled with it and embraced the shadows and highlights in all of it’s glory. That’s one of my favorite things about photography is how you an go from one idea to the exact opposite and still really love the results. It’s really fun when you can adapt to different environments and make them work even when that wasn’t the original plan or inspiration. The goal with this shoot was to build up more brand and lifestyle portfolio to send into large clothing and lifestyle brands in hopes of starting a conversation about collaborating on future projects. Again, I’m really please with the way this shoot turned out even if it was the opposite of the original idea. Also, parking garages are fantastic places to shoot if you haven’t done so(assuming you’re a photographer reading this).
