Non Traditional Church Wedding

This non-traditional church wedding was a joy to shoot. The Roy and Lindsey have been friends of mine for awhile. For their engagement photos we traveled up Rowena Crest Roy’s mom has a cabin and spent the weekend hanging out and getting a chance to really connect. They got married at The Brooklyn Arts District which has this old church that’s been renovated to a concert and event venue. It’s a MASSIVE space and really quite beautiful. Located in the heart of downtown Wilmington NC it’s a short walk to all of what downtown has to offer. We had a blast at this wedding and that’s why I really like photographing weddings where I’ve had a chance to become friends with the clients because it just puts everyone at ease and theres a level of comfort and familiarity that’s importance just can’t be quantified.

Sunshine and Smiles

Roy and his groomsman got ready a few blocks down at their apartment which used to be an old doctor’s office(I love buildings that have been repurposed). Lindsey and her girl’s got ready in the bridal suite of the center that used to be the priest’s housing. It’s attached to the main building but still separate. Weddings always seem to go by so much faster than you’d think. 8 hours is gone in a blink of an eye. After a beautiful ceremony on the old altar we had a few minutes to do bride and groom portraits. It was extremely sunny that day with no clouds, not one. So I embraced the sunshine instead of trying to keep them in the shadows for all the shots. Typically you don’t want to shoot in full sun because of harsh shadows and lighting but I’m glad we embraced it and I really like the poppy feel it gave to the bride and groom portraits. They had a great night of partying and left on a bike taxi which I thought was super cool. OH, I must say, their wedding cake was probably one of the best if not the best I’ve ever had. They did rum cakes by Cape Fear Rum Cakes and man oh man was it delicious.
